Not bad for 141 years old! Whimsical and practical Joseph Ridge and Company nut dish. Made of parcel gilt and silver plate, the shell bowls are a generous size. There is a "green man" on the dish handle. A green man is a pre-Roman character associated with the English woodlands and the environment. Use of the green man in design had a resurgence during the English arts and crafts movement when this dish was created. Made in Sheffield, England circa 1881.
Dimensions:11"W; 3"H. Shells are 5"L.
